They seem to be the same mags the community knows and loves, and we actually get three now instead of two like we have with other generations. The G19 uses the same grip angle & controls as every other Glock. However, at the start, the company actually manufactured curtain rods, not firearms. In the 1970s, the company started manufacturing knives for the Austrian military. With the right holster and belt, many find the Glock 19 Gen 5 comfortable for all-day carry.
The Glock 19 is chambered in 9mm, a popular and widely available caliber for personal defense. The portrayal of gangsters with Glocks is often seen in movies and media. This, in my mind, is the kind of combat/defensive shooting a stock Glock 19 really is Glock 17 vs Glock 19 designed for. The new Glock 19 Gen 5 has, in almost everyone’s opinion, a better grip than the Gen 4 model. They did away with the finger grooves and gave us a straight grip that is much better for controlling recoil and keeps basically the same length of pull.
It is often portrayed for stylistic or intimidation purposes, but it sacrifices accuracy and control. The Gen 5 still comes with the same plastic Glock sights that people like to complain about. I used the factory sights for USPSA meets without any issues, but there are definitely better after-market sights available. I will confess that I did have a 4-pound trigger installed in my Glock 21, and it’s very nice. The Gen 4 featured a reversible magazine catch to accommodate left-handed shooters. Glock has gone one better on the Gen 5, and the gun now comes with a truly ambidextrous slide stop lever.
The 1.25-inch width of the Glock grip feels wide, but that width helps the gun dissipate recoil in a comfy and controllable manner. You can find any number of examples with thousands of rounds on them that still perform like they are brand new. There was no telling how many rounds went through mine before it made it to my hands, yet I’ve never had an issue with it working when I need it to. I’ll admit this isn’t my concealed carry firearm, but rather a beater pistol I keep packed away for a rainy day. Thus, when the Gen 5 was designed, the finger grooves were removed so that GLOCK owners could grip the gun as they pleased. Meaning that this GLOCK 19 version comes with the most ergonomic and comfortable grip compared to previous iterations.
However, if you plan to have your gun for home defense, investing in a light may be a good idea. Finally, combining the RTF with the lack of finger grooves offers superior control over any recoil. In prior generations of the GLOCK 19, the finger grooves have been frequently derided by shooters. When held up against the less evolved Glock 19 For Sale version of the G19, the designers of the Gen 4 can celebrate the firmer grip experienced in the upgrade. The new RTF might be a touch coarse for those with softer hands, but more calloused hands will enjoy the benefits of this addition. Austrian law enforcement sought a handgun that handled better and was more concealable than the 17.

Although mildly annoying at first, I haven’t found this to negatively affect my shooting. Even if stuck magazines were a common problem (they aren’t), the solution in this case is worse. Most people seem to think it was the latter—that Glock added nDLC over the nitrided slide to make it even stronger, smoother, and more corrosion resistant. The most likely answer is they simply switched to a different form of nitriding which wasn’t as robust as the one they used on the Gen 1, 2, and 3 pistols.
