The new barrel rifling profile is purported to double accuracy at longer ranges (4” groups at 50 yards, Glock claims). I’m not yet good enough to get 4” groups at 50 yards, but I did find that my groups at 25 yards were noticeably smaller with the Gen 5 as compared to my Gen 4 shooting. I can’t say for sure, but I’ll assume that this is due to the more accurate barrel. The barrel and slide were hardened using a proprietary process called Tenifer, which was applied with a high temperature nitride bath. The Tenifer treatment was highly resistant to wear, corrosion, weather, Glock 17 vs Glock 19 and even salt water and sweat. Because the coating actually penetrates the steel, it retains these properties even when the visible finish wears.
That said, they are usable, especially for defensive/combat shooting, I just don’t like trying to hit anything at 50+ yards with them. The availability of the Glock 19 ensures that shooters can easily find spare parts, accessories, and ammunition for their firearm. This makes it a convenient choice for those who value ease of maintenance and customization.
Shootability—officially I’m told this isn’t a real word, but it should be. “Shootability” is a combination of size, weight, trigger pull, and how well the pistol naturally points.
